- Application: Spiramycin is a macrolide antibiotic that is commonly used to treat infections of soft tissues. It has been used to treat bronchopulmonary infections in adults [1] and has been used to study septicemia in mice [2].
- Biochem/physiol Actions: Spiramycin is a 16-membered ring macrolide antibiotic from Streptomyces ambofaciens. It inhibits bacterial protein synthesis at the level of peptidy-tRNA dissociation from ribosomes. It is mainly used against Gram-positive bacteria.
