Description

  • CD105 (Endoglin is a Type I transmembrane protein) is highly expressed on human vascular endothelial cells and exists on an O- and N-glycosylated homodimer
  • Up regulation of CD105 expression has been demonstrated in tumor vasculature and proliferating cells, suggesting that it is a proliferation associated endothelial marker
  • CD105 is highly expressed on endothelial cells and promotes angiogenesis during wound healing, infarcts and in a wide range of tumors and its gene expression is stimulated by hypoxia
  • CD105 binds to TGF beta 1 and 3 with high affinity but not to TGF beta 2
  • Mutations in the CD105 gene cause hereditary hemorrhagic telangiectasia, also known as Osler-Rendu-Weber syndrome 1, an autosomal domit multisystemic vascular dysplasia
  • Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding different isoforms of CD105 have been found
  • Diseases associated with CD105 dysfunction include hereditary hemorrhagic telangiectasia.
