Description

  • TRPM2 belongs to the ion transport protein family which includes Sodium, Potassium, Calcium ion channels
  • This family is characterized by proteins possessing 6 transmembrane helices in which the last two helices flank a loop which determines ion selectivity
  • TRPM2 is activated by oxidative stress and confers susceptibility to cell death
  • Further, TRPM2 is a calcium-permeable cation channel that is regulated by free intracellular ADP-ribose
  • Several alternatively spliced transcript variants of the TRPM2 gene have been described, but their full-length nature is not known.
