Description

  • Positive Samples: mouse brain, rat brain Immunogen sequence: NQPRDKQGRG LLYKSSTD UCP4 is a 323 amino acid mitochondrial uncoupling protein belonging to the large mitochondrial substrate carrier family with three Solcar repeats
  • UCP4 is a mitochondrial transport carrier that facilitates the transfer of anions from the inner to the outer mitochondrial membrane and the return transfer of protons from the outer to the inner mitochondrial membrane
  • It reduces the mitochondrial membrane potential in mammalian cells and is involved in thermoregulatory heat production
  • UCP4 creates proton leaks across the inner mitochondrial membrane, thus uncoupling oxidative phosphorylation from ATP synthesis resulting in dissipation of energy in the form of heat
  • UCP4 is usually found in adult and fetal brain, with low levels in spinal chord, corpus callosum and substantia nigra.
