Description
- General description: Egg L-α-phosphatidylcholine (PC) has palmitic acid (16:0) and oleic acid (18:1) at sn-1 and sn-2 positions, respectively. It constitutes 20% of the total phospholipids in egg.[1]
- Application: Egg PC (95%) has been used for the reconstitution of nhTMEM16 into liposomes.[3]
- Biochem/physiol Actions: Egg L-α-phosphatidylcholine (PC) is used in lipid preparation[5] and liposomes for biophysical studies.[2] It serves as a substrate for microbes for trimethylamine N-oxide (TMAO) synthesis. Egg PC is used as a marker to access cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk.[1]
