Description

  • General description: Cholesterol sulfate is synthesized by the sulfoconjugation of cholesterol in the presence of enzyme cholesterol sulfotransferase.[1] It is present in brain, lungs, hair and skin tissues as well as cells including erythrocytes, platelets and spermatozoa.[2]
  • Application: Cholesterol sulfate has been used in micelle preparation and in surface plasmon resonance (SPR) studies.[3]
  • Biochem/physiol Actions: Cholesterol sulfate is associated with atherosclerotic lesions and serves as a substrate for platelet adhesion.[4] It stabilizes the spermatozoa membranes[2] and erythrocytes.[5] Cholesterol sulfate is involved in the keratinocyte differentiation and its levels are elevated in recessive X-linked ichthyosis.[5] It serves as a ligand for retinoic acid-related orphan receptor α (RORα). Cholesterol sulfate regulates glucose metabolism and is a potential target for metabolic disorders.[1] It is also a potential marker for human uterine cervical carcinoma tissue and prostate carcinoma.[6]
  • Packaging: 20 mL Clear Glass Screw Cap Vial (700016P-1g)
