Description
- General description: Phosphatidylglycerol (PG), an anionic phospholipid is present in the intracellular membranes of mammals. 1% of the total phospholipids consists of PG.[1]
- Application: 17:0 PG (1,2-diheptadecanoyl-sn-glycero-3-phospho-(1′-rac-glycerol)) has been used as an internal standard in quantifying lipids.[2] It has also been used as a standard to examine polar metabolites and lipids profiling in human plasma using hydrophilic liquid interaction chromatography (HILIC)- fourier transform ion cyclotron resonance mass spectrometer.[3]
- Biochem/physiol Actions: The level of phosphatidylglycerol (PG) can be used to indicate the maturity of fetus lung.[4]
