Description
- General description: Phosphatidylcholine (PC) is the main constituent of the plasma membrane. Generally, PC has unsaturated fatty acid, in both from human and vegetable origin. Fatty acid composition of soy PC has 70 % of linolenic acid. Hence, Soy PC has low phase transition temperature in water containing systems.[1]
- Application: Soy PC has been used in the preparation of liposomes.[2] Soy PC is suitable for use in the preparation of flexible liposomes (FLUV)[3] and in treating Pheochromocytoma (PC12) cells to analyze its effects on exocytosis kinetics.[4]
- Biochem/physiol Actions: Phosphatidylcholine is the main source of phosphocholine, which aids in transforming ceramides into sphingomyelin. Phosphatidylcholine is more prominent in the living tissues. Soy PC is commonly used in cosmetic formulations.[1]
