- General description: Phosphatidylcholines (PCs) are phospholipids, that are abundantly present in the membrane. The fatty acids in the sn-1 and sn-2 positions of PCs are attached to a glycerol molecule covalently with the help of ester bonds.[1]
- Application: 17:0 PC (1,2-diheptadecanoyl-sn-glycero-3-phosphocholine) has been used:as an internal standard for phospholipids in fatty acid analysis[2][3]as a component in the extraction mixture for lipid extraction from frozen leaf tissue[4]as an internal standard and a component in methanol: methyl tert-butyl ether (MTBE) extraction buffer for the determination of metabolite levels in tumor and normal tissues using gas chromatography-mass spectrometrometer (GC-MS)[5]
- Biochem/physiol Actions: Phosphatidylcholines (PCs) serve as a major source for eicosanoids.[1]
