Description
- General description: Resorcinol, a dihydric phenol[1], is a key component of hair dyeing products.[2] Studies in B16-F10 melanoma cells have revealed that it minimizes melanin production, making it a potential hypopigmenting agent.[3]It serves as a cross-linking agent to produce resorcinol-formaldehyde resin, adhesives, rubbers, and composite materials.[4]
- Application: Resorcinol may be used as a starting material in the preparation of organic compounds such as resacetophenone[5], 4-methyl-7-hydroxycoumarin[6], β-resorcylic acid[7] and 2-methyl-1,3-cyclohexanedione.[8]
