- Biochem/physiol Actions: Pro-inflammatory cytokine IL-1 Β (IL1B), which is highly expressed on Β-adrenoreceptor in obese adipose tissues, is implicated in induction of uncoupling protein 1 (UCP1) expression via extracellular signal-regulated kinase (ERK) activation in adipocytes.[3] Macrophage autophagy inhibits the production of inflammasome-dependent IL-1Β and thereby it plays a vital role in reducing acute toxin-induced liver injury and death.[4] In rats, IL-1Β enhanced neurogenesis and plasticity of carotid bodies (CB) by triggering ERK1/2 activation.[5] IL-1Β plays a vital role in alteration of glomerular hemodynamics via stimulating the production of prostaglandin E2 (PGE2) in the mesangial cells.[2]
