Description

- Rab9 is required for trafficking mannose-6-phosphate receptor from the late endosome to the trans Golgi network
- By facilitating receptor transport, Rab9 enables cells to efficiently recycle important cellular trafficking components
- Like other Rab family members, Rab9 is prenylated by two 20-carbon geranylgeranyl groups at the C terminus
- Most prenylated Rab9 is membrane bound, but 10-20% of the cellular pool of Rab9 is bound to GDP dissociation inhibitor-a (GDI) in the cytosol.
