- General description: 7α,27-dihydroxycholesterol (7α,27-di-OHC) is an oxysterol with oxidized side chains.[1] 7α,27-dihydroxycholesterol (7α27-OHC) is synthesized by the hydroxylation of 27-Hydroxycholesterol (27-OHC) and is a structural isomer of 7α,25-dihydroxycholesterol (7α25-OHC).[2]
- Biochem/physiol Actions: 7α,27-dihydroxycholesterol (7α,27-di-OHC) is one of the metabolite screened in pathological conditions such as neurological diseases, Smith-Lemli-Opitz syndrome, obesity metabolic syndrome and diabetes by lipidomics analysis of human specimens.[3] Upon the lipopolysaccharide activation, the levels of 7α,27-di-OHC decreases.[1]7α27-OHC is a ligand for Epstein-Barr virus-induced gene 2 (EBI2).[2]
