Description
- General description: It is predominantly present in pine oil.[1]
- Application: Sitostanol is suitable for its use as a component in micelle preparation, used for cell culture and cellular uptake studies.[5] It is also suitable for use in cell culture to study its effect on a T-helper-1 shift in peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) from asthma patients.[6]
- Biochem/physiol Actions: Plant stanols are structurally similar to cholesterol, hence it reduces the plasma level of LDL cholesterol.[10] Sitostanol is known to possess hypolipidemic and antiatherogenic effects.[1]
