- General description: β-Glucosylceramides or glucocerebrosides (GlcCers) are synthesized from the glycosphingolipids by β-GlcCer synthase. They are synthesized in Golgi and endoplasmic reticulum and localized in the cytosolic side of cell membrane. GlcCers are omnipresent.[1]
- Application: C24:1 Glucosyl(β) Ceramide (d18:1/24:1(15Z)) may be used:as a standard hexosylceramide for hydrophilic interaction chromatography-based liquid chromatography mass spectroscopy[1]to test its nuclear factor of activated T-cells (NFAT) activation[2]in human natural killer T (NKT) cell potency assays[3]
- Biochem/physiol Actions: β-Glucosylceramides (β-GlcCer) levels are elevated inlevels in Gaucher′s disease, due to the deficiency of β-glucosidase.[4] β-GlcCer participates in the inflammatory and acquired immune responses by binding mincle on myeloid cells and has immunostimulatory activity.[5]
