- Biochem/physiol Actions: Lactosylceramide (LacCer) is a structural and signaling lipid.[2] It is implicated in signal transduction, cell adhesion and host-tissue pathogen interactions.[2][3] LacCer modulates cell proliferation and apoptosis. It is involved in regulating cellular stress response and microbial pathogenesis. LacCer regulates innate immune responses.[3] It helps in microbial attachment and also acts as an adhesion receptor for pathogens.[1]
