- General description: Sphingosine-1-Phosphate (S1P) (d17:1) is a derivate of ceramide.[1] It is a phosphorylated form of C17 analog of sphingosine.[2] S1P is a zwitterionic sphingolipid. It is found in insects, yeasts and plants.
- Application: Sphingosine-1-Phosphate (d17:1) has been used as an internal standard to quantify sphingosine 1-phosphate (S1P) in biological materials and tissue samples by mass spectrometry.[3][4][5]
- Biochem/physiol Actions: Sphingosine-1-phosphate (S1P) contributes to cellular growth and function.[1] It also aids in various physiological and cellular processes such as atherosclerosis, inflammation, immunity, tumorigenesis and cell proliferation.[2] S1P acts as a signaling lipid in animal cells.
