Description

  • Description: The eBio1316H antibody reacts with mouse IL-13
  • The eBio1316H antibody is a neutralizing antibody
  • Mouse interleukin-13 (IL-13), originally designated p600, is a 11.6 kDa protein secreted by activated T helper cells, CD8+ T cells, and NK cells
  • IL-13 was originally identified in 1989 through differential hybridization of cDNA libraries prepared from T helper 1 and T helper 2 cells
  • IL-13 contains four cysteine residues, which form two intramolecular disulfide bonds
  • IL-13 shares many activities with IL-4; this relates to a requirement for IL-4Ralpha chain for signal transduction
  • The biological activities of IL-13 include suppression of macrophage cytotoxic activity, upregulation of IL-1RA expression, and suppression of inflammatory cytokine expression
  • IL-13 induces CD23 expression on B cells and enhances CD72, and expression of class II MHC gene products
  • Mouse IL-13 does not display the activities on T cells and B cell stimulatory effects which IL-4 exhibits
  • Mouse IL-13 is active on human and mouse cells
  • Applications Reported: The eBio1316H antibody has been reported useful for neutralization, ELISA detection, and ELISPOT detection
  • Applications Tested: The biotinylated eBio1316H antibody has been tested as the detection antibody in a sandwich ELISA (and ELISPOT assay) for analysis of mouse interleukin-13 (IL-13) in combination with the purified eBio13A (14-7133) antibody for capture and recombit mouse IL-13 (14-8131) as the standard
  • IL-13 is an immunoregulatory cytokine produced primarily by activated Th2 cells, and is involved in regulating inflammatory and immune responses
  • IL-13 down-regulates macrophage activity, thereby inhibiting the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines and chemokines, and is involved in allergen-induced asthma through mechanisms independent of IgE and eosinophils
  • IL-13 also regulates several stages of B cell maturation and differentiation, up-regulates CD23 and MHC class II expression, and promotes IgE isotype switching of B cells
  • Structurally, IL-13 closely resembles IL-3, IL-4, IL-5 and GM-CSF
  • The gene encoding IL-13, IL3, IL5, IL4, and CSF2 form a cytokine gene cluster on chromosome 5q, with the IL-13 gene particularly close to IL4.
