Description

  • Interferon-induced protein with tetratricopeptide repeats 5 (UniProt Q13325; also known as IFIT-5, Interferon-induced 58kDa protein, P58, Retinoic acid- and interferon-inducible 58kDa protein) is encoded by the IFIT5 (also known as ISG58, RI58) gene (Gene ID 24138) in human
  • IFIT1, IFIT2, IFIT3, and IFIT5 constitute the family of interferon-stimulated genes (ISGs) that are induced in response to virus infection, stimulation by interferons (IFNs) or double-stranded RNA (dsRNA)
  • The protiens encoded by IFIT1 and IFIT2 are called ISG56 (p56) and ISG54 (p54) in both human and murine species, while the murine IFIT3 (ISG49 or p49) is of a different size than its human counterpart (ISG60 or p60) and no known murine IFIT5 analog exists
  • IFIT family proteins restrict virus replication by various means
  • IFIT1 is known to disrupt complex formation between eIF3 and HCV RNA and inhibit HPV E1 helicase
  • IFIT3 is shown to enhance TBK1 and MAVS interation to potentiate antiviral response
  • IFIT5 is reported to facilitate the interaction between I B kinase (IKK) and TGF- -activated kinase 1 (TAK1) by binding both proteins, resulting in enhanced NF- B activation as a reuslt of increased IKK phosphorylation and activation
