Description

  • Inhibitor of growth protein 5 (UniProt Q8WYH8; also known as p28ING5) is encoded by the ING5 gene (Gene ID 84289) in human
  • ING5 is a member of the ING family of proteins known for their antiporliferation activity
  • ING proteins bind to methylated core histones through their PHD motif (a.a
  • 186-235 in ING5), and ING5 is known to target histone H3 on di- or trimethylated Lys4 (H3K4me2/3)
  • ING5 associates with two histone acetylase (HAT) complexes, HBO1 and nucleosomal H3-specific MOZ/MORF, that interact with the MCM helicase and are essential for DNA replication during S phase
  • ING5 deregulations are reported in various cancers and ING5 located chromosome region is deleted in oral squamous cell carcinoma and odontogenic tumors
  • In addition, ING5 cytosolic localization is reported in some head and neck squamous cell carcinoma tumors and the cytosolic localization positively correlates with the progression of gastric cancer
  • ING5 also pormotes p53-dependent gene transcription by enhancing p53 acetylation in a p300-dependent manner
  • ING5 is shown to interact with p63 that mediates the self-renewal of epidermal stem cells, and ING5 knockdown causes differentiation of epidermal stem cells
