- General description: Ceramide is a N-acylsphingosine derived mainly from sphingomyelin (SM) or sphingosine (Sph) by acidic sphingomyelinase (ASMase) during sphingolipid (SPL) biosynthesis and degradation pathways. It is a mostly studied SPL mediator.[1]
