Description

  • Ankyrin repeat domain-containing protein 1 (UniProt Q15327; also known as Cardiac ankyrin repeat protein, Cytokine-inducible gene C-193 protein, Cytokine-inducible nuclear protein) is encoded by the ANKRD1 (also known as C193, CARP, HA1A2) gene (Gene ID 27063) in human
  • ANKRD1/CARP belongs to a family of conserved muscle ankyrin repeat proteins (MARPs), members of which also include ANKRD2 and diabetes ankyrin repeat protein (DARP, ANKRD23)
  • ANKRD1 is highly expressed in cardiomyocytes and known to interact with myopalladin and titin, implicating its roles in myopalladin complex-dependent sarcomere integrity maintenance and stress-induced gene regulations medidated by the titin complex
  • ANKRD1 is up-regulated in patients with dilated cardiomyopathy and in animal models of cardiac hypertrophy induced by pressure overload and adrenergic stimulation
  • ANKRD1 is shown to regulate the hypertrophic agonist phenylephrine-/PE-induced α-adrenergic signaling pathway in neonatal rat ventricular myocytes, where it recruits and localizes ERK1/2 and GATA4 in a sarcomeric complex, resulting in enhanced GATA4 phosphorylation and subsequent ANKRD1 complex nuclear translocation and gene activation.
